We are looking for a Software Operations Lead to join our team. Under the general direction of the Manager, IT Operations, the Software Operations Lead will supervise, plan, assign work, and support employees in the Software Operation section of the IT Operations Department. This includes overseeing the Microsoft 365 Administration, Mobile Devices, Content Services, and Software Licencing groups.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead the section in identifying, planning, prioritizing, allocating, monitoring, and delivering on core enterprise workloads to ensure highly available, secure, and compliant infrastructure specialties, including M365 administration, content management systems, mobile, software asset management (SAM), and related technologies.
  • Participate and supervise large complex enterprise-wide IT-related projects and technical upgrades, ensuring that technologies and operational standards align with enterprise requirements/expectations for business continuity, availability, and disaster recovery.
  • Provide advice in the preparation of procurement documents related to large software purchases, the establishment of vendor record contracts, and manage software maintenance renewals with the Value Management Office.
  • Ensure 24x7x365 support for critical systems, address root causes of faults, and communicate with stakeholders during incidents.
  • Coordinate resource allocation for projects and plan, schedule, and delegate work within IT and across the enterprise.
  • Prepare business plans, budgets, workload projections, and technology roadmaps, aligning section goals with Manitoba Hydro's short-term and long-term goals.
  • Collaborate with Enterprise Architecture and Cyber Security Office to develop, maintain, and promote technology standards, technical capability guidelines, and/or guardrails, continuously develop and improve enterprise agile architecture and governance, and identify and document business and technical capabilities.
  • Represent Manitoba Hydro when engaging with software vendors.
  • Recommend the selection and training of section employees, plan for and provide ongoing employee development, and conduct employee performance evaluations to ensure performance meets established standards.
  • Ensures process efficiency by implementing the key performance indicators and suggesting improvements to the process continuously.
  • Apply continuous improvement methods (e.g., Agile) to all activities, stay updated on IT trends, and communicate them to employees and management.
  • Participate in technology security related audits and prepare responses and action plans to address gaps identified.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.
Qualifications:
A four-year degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from a university of recognized standing, plus six years of related IT experience.
OR
A two-year diploma in Computer Technology from an institute of recognized standing, plus eight years of related IT experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with employees at all levels.
  • Working knowledge of M365 administration and modern service delivery (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS).
  • Ability to prepare presentations and recommendations for senior management.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of supervisory duties, employee relations, and motivation.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize employees and assign work duties.
  • Effective IT team leader ensuring active participation
  • Knowledge of financial impacts related to IT investment.
  • Proven ability to transform business requirements into IT solutions that align with existing strategies and goals.
  • Comprehensive understanding of project management. Ability to coordinate and lead multiple projects or activities with competing priorities.
  • Ability to recognize and address potential issues regarding planned maintenance and projects.
  • Ability to work effectively with a broad network of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated understanding of change management, governance, compliance, and security standards.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
The range for the classification is $50.98-$69.84 Hourly, $97,682.52-$133,828.76 Annually.
