Position Overview:
The Technology Business Analyst is responsible for partnering with business and technology teams to analyze needs, assess current and future-state processes, and translate business objectives into clear, detailed functional and technical requirements. The Technology Business Analyst builds strong working relationships across product, engineering, architecture, and operations teams to ensure solutions are well understood, feasible, and aligned to technical strategies.
The successful candidate will apply advanced business analysis and systems analysis skills to create high quality documentation, maintain full traceability from requirements through to solution design, and ensure deliverables meet both functional and technical expectations. While the primary focus is on early delivery phases—such as technology demand intake, feasibility assessment, planning, and initiation—the role will also contribute to execution activities for large and complex technology initiatives.
This position collaborates closely with technology product owners and other IT stakeholders throughout the intake and discovery process. It also provides guidance on best practices in technology-focused business analysis, contributing to the maturity of the BA discipline through knowledge sharing, coaching, and mentoring.
Responsibilities:
- Acts as a specialist BA to lead activities to gather needs from the business and translate them into functional, data and technology requirements.
- Support the Stakeholders/Technical Product Owner throughout the demand intake and project initiation process.
- Leverage complex tools and methodologies in requirements gathering, analysis, and managing traceability.
- Plan, facilitate, and participate in requirement gathering sessions with the business through meetings and/or workshops.
- Oversee walkthroughs and formal sign-off of requirements with key stakeholders and/or management.
- Facilitate clarification meetings, as required, to support requirements understanding and documentation.
- Assess the impact, risks, and benefits associated with requirements for proposed solutions and participate in procurement activities.
- Participate in cross functional teams to understand the relative priority and depth of requirements, proposing phasing as required to help achieve objectives.
- Contribute to research, development, and maintenance of business analysis tools and technologies.
- Have a comprehensive knowledge of Waterfall, Agile, and Hybrid methodologies and balance these practices to recommend innovations to the BA work.
- Incorporate process improvement methodologies, proactively looking for continuous improvement efficiencies related to solution options.
- Foster a collaborative atmosphere by sharing knowledge and experience with members of the work group.
- Work on multiple projects and meet deliverables through goal setting, time management, planning and leveraging practices and processes to manage and simplify work.
- Provide guidance and mentoring to other D&T BA staff.
- Facilitate meetings, do presentations to varying audiences, and write clear communications.
Qualifications:
- A four-year degree in Business Administration, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems or related disciplines from a recognized university which includes completion of specialized courses in Business Analysis or applicable recognized certification plus a minimum of five years directly related business analyst experience;
- OR
- A two-year diploma in Business Administration, Business Technology Management, or related discipline from an institute of recognized standing which includes completion of specialized courses in Business Analysis or applicable recognized certification plus a minimum of seven years directly related business analyst experience.
- IIBA Certification would be considered an asset.
- Lean, Agile, or OCM certifications would also be considered assets.
- Having Data & Analytics specific education, experience or certification would be an asset in this position.
- Extensive experience and acts as a specialist in business analysis methods, designing and implementing business analysis processes and procedures.
- Proven ability to use analytical skills to critically evaluate complex information gathered from multiple sources, reconcile conflicts, decompose high-level information into details, and abstract up from low-level information to a more general understanding.
- Proven ability to understand overarching business model as well as intricacies and nuances of the assigned functional business areas.
- Ability to interpret business needs at a tactical and strategic level.
- Experience working in a data and technology delivery environment.
- Experience in optimizing business processes and working collaboratively across business units with a variety of stakeholders.
- Ability to communicate effectively, influence others, and initiate action.
- Ability to establish and cultivate successful relationships with D&T and business stakeholders and tactfully handle feedback.
- Exceptional stakeholder partnership and collaboration; with ability to work across different functions, internal and external stakeholders.
- Ability to understand, empathize and bridge multiple perspectives (e.g., leadership and technical specialists).
- Ability to manage expectations and communicate appropriately with business stakeholders while making decisions about competing priorities.
- Experience working in an Agile and waterfall environment.
- Excellent written and oral presentation skills.
Salary Range
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The range for the classification is $45.65-$62.99 Hourly, $87,470.50-$120,696.94 Annually.
