Position Overview:
Under the general direction of the Section Lead or Senior SAP Basis Administrator, the SAP Basis Administrator assists in the design, administration, monitoring, and support of Manitoba Hydro's SAP technical infrastructure across ECC, S/4HANA, and SAP Business Technology Platform (BTP) components. You will support system performance, availability, security, and lifecycle management activities to ensure SAP environments operate reliably and meet corporate standards for stability and compliance.
As a member of the SAP Basis Administration team, you work closely with SAP Applications analysts and developers to support application deployments, troubleshoot technical issues, and maintain the underlying SAP platforms, databases, and operating systems. The role requires hands-on involvement in system upgrades, patching, performance tuning, backup and recovery processes, and technical troubleshooting, with growing independence and responsibility for moderately complex tasks.
You will support SAP systems operating in a hybrid landscape, including on-premise ECC and S/4HANA environments as well as cloud-based SAP solutions such as RISE with SAP, SuccessFactors, and Ariba, primarily through integration support, monitoring, and coordination with SAP and internal teams.
Responsibilities:
- Assist in the design, administration, and support of SAP technical infrastructure across ECC, S/4HANA, and related SAP components, ensuring secure operation, high availability, and optimal performance.
- Assist with performance monitoring, analysis, and tuning of SAP systems, including application servers, HANA databases, and integration components.
- Provide ongoing support and troubleshooting for SAP instances, software components, Linux scripts and utilities, HANA and other related databases, SAP desktop tools, printing services, and associated technical infrastructure.
- Assist with the support, upgrade, patching, and lifecycle management of SAP HANA databases and other SAP-supported database platforms.
- Work closely with SAP Applications staff, providing technical support to business analysts and developers during application development, deployment, and testing activities.
- Assist with the design, execution, and maintenance of SAP backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures, including participation in scheduled disaster recovery testing.
- Provide advisory input to SAP business analysts, developers, and management regarding system access, security considerations, and SAP infrastructure capabilities.
- Collaborate with other SAP Basis Administrators on SAP-related projects, including system refreshes, migrations, upgrades, and S/4HANA transition activities.
- Stay current with SAP security enhancements, Basis tools, and infrastructure developments relevant to Manitoba Hydro's SAP environment.
- Assist with the monitoring, troubleshooting, and support of integrations between on-premise SAP systems and cloud-based SAP solutions such as RISE with SAP, SuccessFactors, and Ariba.
- Support connectivity, certificates, and middleware components (e.g., SAP Cloud Connector, SAP BTP services, or SAP Integration Suite) used to integrate cloud and on-premise SAP systems.
- Provide on-call support for SAP infrastructure outside regular working hours as part of a rotational schedule.
- Work overtime when required and be prepared to report to work at any time during a 24-hour period to maintain system reliability, availability, and performance.
- Some standby and overtime may be required during major system upgrades, enhancements, or revisions.
Qualifications:
- A four year degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering from a university of recognized standing with two years of SAP Basis or SAP security experience demonstrating the skills and qualities required for this position;
- OR
- A two year diploma in Computer Technology from an institute of recognized standing and four years of SAP Basis or SAP security experience demonstrating the skills and qualities required for this position.
- Knowledge of SAP technical infrastructure components, including installation, configuration, administration, and maintenance of SAP systems across ECC, S/4HANA, and related platforms.
- Working knowledge of Linux and Windows server operating systems, including commands, scripting, file systems, networking fundamentals, and authorization concepts.
- Experience supporting SAP application servers, web dispatchers, gateway services, and related infrastructure components.
- Experience assisting with SAP system upgrades, enhancement packs, support packages, kernel updates, and transport management.
- Understanding of SAP HANA database administration, backup and recovery procedures, patching, and performance monitoring.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with technical staff, business users, and project teams.
- Demonstrated ability to learn quickly, adapt to new technologies, and apply new skills in a dynamic SAP environment.
- Self-motivated and dependable, with the ability to complete detailed technical work accurately and with minimal supervision.
- Ability to conduct research, analyze technical issues, and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Strong analytical skills and sound judgment, with the ability to make and implement effective decisions in time-sensitive situations.
- Ability to work tactfully and diplomatically with colleagues, business partners, and vendors.
- Prepared to work overtime when required and to report to work at any time during a 24-hour period to ensure system reliability.
- Familiarity with cloud-based SAP solutions such as RISE with SAP, SuccessFactors, and Ariba, particularly in the areas of integration, connectivity, identity management, or operational support.
- Prepared to participate in on-call rotations to support a stable and reliable SAP infrastructure.
- Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) training is required and must be completed prior to transfer date and renewed annually.
- Must obtain and maintain a current Personnel Risk Assessment and a "Clear" security rating in accordance with Manitoba Hydro Policy P513.
Salary Range
This is a progressive classification (Support Specialist I-II). Classification and salary will be commensurate with qualifications.
Support Specialist I - $30.32-$40.63 Hourly, $58,095.96-$77,854.66 Annually
Support Specialist II - $37.85-$52.37 Hourly, $72,521.80-$100,347.78 Annually
