ioAirFlow is hiring a mechanical engineer


Job overview: ioAirFlow is hiring a mechanical engineer (or EIT with sufficient experience) to take on an important role in a cutting-edge technology startup. The position will focus both on theoretical and applied research, with a strong emphasis on conducting tests in real buildings using ioAirFlow’s technology. 

As the successful applicant, you will be working with a dedicated team of entrepreneurs to build a scalable, market-ready solution. This is an opportunity to work with a clean tech startup that has a validated technology and market opportunity, with high potential to scale quickly at a global level.

Working with a diverse in-house team, there are three main goals for this position:

  1. Identify the commonly-occurring conditions that can affect a commercial building’s energy efficiency or indoor environmental quality

  2. Identify recommendations that can resolve each of the issues identified above

  3. Identify how these conditions are measured with ioAirFlow’s wireless sensor technology


Duties & responsibilities

  • Conduct research of mechanical issues prevalent in commercial buildings, as well as potential remedies to those identified issues

  • Create a list of conditions that contribute to commercial building inefficiency and unhealthy indoor environmental quality

  • Help set up and conduct wireless sensor tests in commercial buildings

  • Perform building equipment and envelope audits 

  • Review building test data to help diagnose the issues being identified

  • Correlate building issues with sensor-collected data, to identify trends in the information being collected


  • Driven and self-motivated worker with an entrepreneurial mindset

  • Prior experience conducting energy audits in commercial buildings

  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems in commercial buildings, specifically HVAC systems

  • Understanding of building code standards including Ashrae, LEED, BOMA, or equivalent

  • Creative, outside-the-box thinker

  • LEED certification considered an asset

  • Knowledge of Portfolio Manager considered an asset

  • Passion for the environment considered an asset
