The Canadian Tire Mobile Development team is looking for a skilled Android Chapter Manager who is eager to to build a team of best-in-class Android Developers and deliver exciting digital mobile experiences for the Canadian Tire Corporation, its partners, and its customers.

The Chapter Manager is accountable for spearheading our talent strategy for Android developers, is acutely focused on their professional development opportunities, and is strategic in staffing and project allocation of chapter members to our product initiatives. The Chapter Manager holds the prime accountability for the technical excellence within our Android mobile ecosystem of applications. Responsible for ensuring consistent standards are upheld across all teams and the mobile framework, you will maintain a talent pool of contributors, and coordinate with Product Owners to ensure they are adequately equipped to support for their mission.

What you’ll do

Our Android Chapter Manager will join the mobile team and be a key member in contributing to evolve our suite of mobile apps.  You will accomplish this by working with your Developers to adopt the latest technologies and capabilities to evolve our Mobile framework. You will possess a solid understanding of Android and the components in-which it’s built upon. This Android Chapter Manger is expected to:

Leadership Experience:

  • Have 7+ years of relevant work experience managing teams and bringing commercial software solutions to market, or experience in a similar product engineering capacity.
  • Team Leadership–experienced in assessing and driving necessary actions to improve.
  • Education in Engineering, Computer Science or similar is preferred.
  • Work closely with developers, product owners and designers.
  • Provide technology leadership and guidance on feature architecture and design
  • Able to develop and foster teamwork and facilitate team dynamics.
  • Excellent problem-solving, organizational and analytical skills, with the ability to coach and mentor all roles on a Scrum team.
  • Skilled in building relationships and navigating through organizational layers.
  • Ability to scale thinking and analysis from strategic to detail and vice versa.
  • Executive presence; strong facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Conflict resolution and effective mediation and influencing skills.
  • Very strong customer and delivery focus.
  • Knowledge of Retail Business/Technology is an asset.

Technical Skills:

  • Have 3+ years of experience building complex and advanced Android apps
  • Capable of writing code using best practices that aligns with the overall architecture, is reusable and responsive in order to produce high quality app features
  • Discover opportunities to improve code through testing, refactoring and benchmarking
  • Ability to assist in troubleshooting advanced and challenging bugs
  • Hands-on experience with coding in Java and Kotlin and writing unit/UI tests
  • Familiarity with the native components, SDKs and API’s available in Android/NDK
  • Familiarity with integrating third party libraries and building first party frameworks
  • Advanced knowledge of Activities, Fragments, Intents and Broadcast Receivers
  • Understanding of various architectural patterns (MVVM, MVP)
  • Proficiency with the latest Android Studio version and it’s toolset (simulators, performance instrumentation etc.)
  • Familiarity with JSON data structures and REST API’s
  • Familiarity of Accessibility features and related APIs
  • Strong estimation skills and ability to maintain technical documentation

Agile/Digital Experience:

  • Knowledgeable about various Agile methodologies and experienced in working within the context of Scrum and Kanban teams.
  • Delivery or software development background.
  • Specific experience in Agile methodologies such as SAFe is an asset.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, growing and dynamic environment
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, openly communicate using various tools and leverage delivery tools to share updates and documentation (Jira, Confluence etc.)
  • Familiarity with continuous development practices and tools such as Jenkins and Maven
  • Proficiency with GIT and code repository tools
