Using Technology to Collaborate with Industry Experts - November 15, 2019

Using Technology to Collaborate with Industry Experts - November 15, 2019

Can you think of a time where your lesson would have been more impactful by having a guest in your class talking about their experience? Want to learn best practices around how to identify and reach out to industry experts to speak to your class? Want to learn to use video-conferencing tools like Skype to integrate remote professionals seamlessly into the classroom?

Learn all this on November 15, 2019 at a full-day workshop for teams of teachers. Subs costs are covered, and lunch is included.

The WHY:
Let's work to impact our learning outcomes more deeply, and effectively. Building relationships with and utilizing industry professionals from all sectors adds value to student learning. Alongside these professionals, we can easily illustrate the practical use of classroom content. What can we do when we unlock the experts, connecting business, legislation, and school with the practical nature of learning outcomes?
  • Discover opportunities for deep learning.
  • Unlock the tools needed to find the resource you want.
  • Include even remote industry connections in the classroom.
  • Build a repeatable process.

The WHAT:
This PD day will cover core concepts around how to better engage with and include industry professionals in the classroom to improve learning outcomes for students.

Goals:
  • Community connections: learn how to leverage your existing relationships and social media platforms to lead you to the specific industry professionals you are looking for;
  • Key Terms and Best Practices: learn how to find people outside the scope of who you have access to;
  • Inclusion in the Classroom Using Tech: learn how to include remote professionals in the classroom through video-conferencing tools.

For the above goals, we will learn best practices for how to leverage platforms like Google, Twitter and LinkedIn to find and communicate with industry professionals, as well as Skype to video-conference live in the classroom with professionals located remotely (or simply with busy schedules).

The HOW:
The morning session will cover an initial where and when we can implement specific tools and resources for accessing industry professionals. It will also cover video-conferencing best practices. We will then define what the tools are and how to use them.

After lunch (provided by Tech Manitoba), we will work both individually and in groups to practice and propose methods of implementing these new skills into your lessons / projects.

Time will be allotted to discuss and work on real-world examples. You will leave with the ability to apply these skills into your lessons immediately.

EQUIPMENT:
Please ensure to bring your laptop (and charger) with you. Laptops can be provided upon request at no cost. Please confirm upon registration
