This fun, educational and challenging event is free and open to all data-minded people, including aspiring or practicing Data Scientists, Data Analysts, data hobbyists, students and Citizen Data Journalists.
The 2020 event will focus on the creative use of Open Data, geo-spatial analytics and mapping to enhance living in Winnipeg.
Each prototype or demo must make use of at least one dataset obtained from the City of Winnipeg Open Data Portal (https://data.winnipeg.ca).
The Hackathon will kick off on the morning of Saturday, March 7, 2020, at Launch Coworking (Southside) with registration, hot pancake breakfast/brunch and presentations to learn about the City of Winnipeg Open Data initiative, and how to access the publicly available datasets from The City of Winnipeg Open Data Portal.
After the presentations, participants will jointly brainstorm use-cases, discuss and shortlist selected use-cases for designing prototype solutions or creating proof-of-concept demonstrations.
The participants then form into separate teams to collaboratively design and build prototype solutions over the course of the afternoon. After dinner, the teams will be invited to present their solutions to all in attendance before the event wrap-up and post-event networking.
