SUMMARY:ICTAM AGM & KEYNOTE: TRUST & TRANSPARENCY IN AI - December 6\, 2018
DESCRIPTION:* If you don't have an ICTAM login or have trouble logging in\, email stownsend@ictam.ca for immediate assistance.\n\n\n\nManitoba's tech sector is strong and it is continuing to grow. Together\, we are creating a community with significant economic impact and a rosy future for those contemplating careers in tech.\n\n \n\nWe invite you to join us for an overview of the Manitoba tech sector and to share what your association\, ICTAM\, has been up to over the past year. Our Annual General Meeting is our opportunity to recap our 2017/2018 year to our members and supporters. This is your industry\, your community\, and your chance to be heard.\n\n\n\nCome network with your peers in Manitoba's ICT industry before the business gets started.\n\n\n\nJoin us for breakfast and settle in to hear a thought-provoking keynote from Trent Gray-Donald\, a distinguished Engineer at IBM\, based in Ottawa. He is the Lead Architect for IBM AI OpenScale\, an AI platform for creating trust and transparency around AI systems. In addition to AI\, he has spent the last several years in the Analytics space\, developing cloud-based data and analytics platforms.\n\n\n\n\n\n"Trust and Transparency in AI"\n\n\n\nOrganizations\, drawn by the promises of machine algorithms that learn from data\, are applying artificial intelligence to their business challenges at a tremendous\, and accelerating\, rate. This rapid adoption has brought a well-known (to academics at least) shortcoming of common machine learning algorithms to the fore: we don't know what the algorithm actually learned. Organizations need to know: did the algorithm learn what we think it did and so we can trust it 'in the wild'\; and do the algorithm's outputs accurately reflect how we want to do business? This talk will look at the societal implications of off-loading decision making to AI systems\, regulatory requirements affecting AI systems\, and the technology solutions being developed to address solve these problems.
